Vintage Kay Bojesen monkey figurine, a classic Danish design piece. Iconic wooden monkey designed by Danish silversmith and designer Kay Bojesen (1886-1958) in 1951. The monkey is Bojesen's most famous and acclaimed wooden creation. According to design lore, it was initially conceived as a quirky hat rack/coat peg for a children's furniture exhibition, but it transcended this purpose to achieve cult status among design enthusiasts worldwide. The original monkey is handmade from teak and limba wood. It was exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London in the 1950s and is now considered a design classic.
