In the 1960s, as the Danish academic world underwent redesign, Louis Poulsen developed a completely new lamp—not to impress, but to solve a real problem. Classrooms, halls, and studios were lit with strong, harsh bulbs, and students complained of glare and eye fatigue. Thus was born the Klassependel, which, just like its name—"classroom lamp"—was designed specifically for learning environments. This is one of Poulsen's only models that doesn't bear a star designer's signature but was created as a "group effort" by the company's team. Precisely because of this, it purely embodies the philosophy that made the company a global leader: dressing the light, not just manufacturing a lamp. The gray aluminum directs light downward, the acrylic diffuser softens the light and breaks glare, and the upper part—white opal glass/acrylic—radiates a soft wave toward the ceiling. Thus the lamp simultaneously creates clear working light and calming ambient light, without lighting contrasts and without eye strain. This is a classic example of Danish Modernism: form that stems entirely from function. Today the lamp is recognized as a collector's item, and among Poulsen lamps of the period, only a few have survived in such good condition. No stains and no distortions.
